How much should I invest in Sextant funds?

We advise you to invest in our funds, a part of your long term savings that you would be willing to invest in the stock markets in a reasonable optimal period.

Sextant funds are essentially invested in stocks, which signifies that they are in no case covered under any sort of guaranteed capital. The stock markets offer noticeable long term performances, nevertheless you should be aware that shorter periods the risks of loss are more elevated and should not be underestimated. The rates of the stock market reflect only the price of moment “t” of a company, and only rarely reflect the value of the company. In other words, Mr. Market, the famous character created by Benjamin Graham provides each day the price at which he is ready to buy or sell a share; in no case does he help you determine the evaluation of a share. Mr. Market is generally intemperate, occasionally extremely pessimist, and sometimes in a euphoric mood. History has shown that sometimes the best investment opportunities turn up with Mr. Market is totally depressed.

There is no use doing yourself harm for money which after all, you don’t really know what service it will be to you. Yet the short term risk for our funds is very real, declines of 40% on values that are already very underestimated are common currency in the stock market for over two centuries and this will not change. We advise that you limit your risk taking to level that will allow you to live in peace.

Your investment level depends on several factors, first of all your holdings, your revenues, your age, your personal projects (children’s studies to finance, purchase of a principal or secondary residence, retirement, creation of a company…). As we have mentioned above, our funds are adapted for long term investment horizons, for short periods, we recommend money market products. Finally, if you hate risk, even a calculated one, and you consult the price of your funds daily, buy money market products, you’ll surely be a winner.

Sextant PEA

Sextant PEA is stock fund whose investment domain is essentially European due to their eligibility for the PEA [French savings plan] (75% of the net assets are in European stocks). The fund is invested in small, mid and big caps; the selection of companies happens after an in-depth analysis of the company by Amiral Gestion.

We launched Sextant Grand Large in 2003 to have the possibility to adjust your level of investments in stocks. The resulting allocation of Sextant Grand Large depends therefore exclusively on the investments opportunities which present themselves to our managers. Sextant Grand Large is a conviction fund in which you give mandate to the manager to be concentrated in his or her strongest beliefs and if necessary to shy away while being ready to react.

Sextant Autour du Monde

In looking for investment ideas in one spot, we sometimes find them elsewhere, this may seem surprising, but as we evaluate a company, we need to understand it well, to understand its specificities, thus we take an interest in the competitors, suppliers, and clients of the companies that we analyze. This investigation work led us to create Sextant Autour du Monde in 2005. Sextant Autour du Monde is run by the same management team as Sextant PEA and obeys the same management philosophy as its elder. The only difference being that Sextant Autour du Monde benefits from a much larger investment domain, since it concerns the entire globe.

Sextant Peak Oil

Since 2005, we have contemplated the subject of petrol, this research has lead us to meet numerous specialists, geologists, exploration directors, head of oil companies, scholars… we have thus been able to acquire a good understanding of the sector and have identified a menace which our economy cannot deal with: Peak Oil. Peak Oil corresponds to the maximum level of oil production, after a Peak Oil, the production of oil will decrease. The challenge is major when we understand the role of oil in the function of the economy (transportation, heating, petrochemical industry…). With Sextant Peak Oil we wish to prepare ourselves for Peak Oil by investing in companies likely to profit from Peak Oil.

The objective of Sextant INC. (leveraged non-UCITS Mutual Fund with simplified investment rules), is to invest in undervalued companies while concentrating the investment to a very small number of equities. The fund may also sell shares thus going into debt if these equities seem largely overvalued.
